Subject: [sfchalkboard] E. Oakland - Seeking 4th for rad 4 Bdrm House on 19th Ave near Foothill
To:
sfchal...@lists.riseup.net
We are three seeking a fourth to be a part of our sweet new house in
East Oakland, near San Antonio Park. We have the house starting
December 15th, and are hoping to have someone move in by January 1st at
the latest. We are mildly flexible on this.
We want to build a comfortable house that encompasses some elements
of a co-operative (shared bulk food, chores, some cooking, shared space
and amenities) without too much structured time input (regularly
scheduled meetings, dedicated chore wheel). We are all
anti-authoritarian and pro direct and open communication in how we
express our needs in the household.
Preferences & requirements for interested housemates:
- 24 years of age or older
- open to having food of all kinds in the house
- fiscally responsible
- personally accountable for your actions
- are anti-racist, queer and trans-friendly, feminist
The House:
- Two story victorian style built in 1884 with many original details
- 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
- lots of common space with two living rooms
- wood floors, high ceilings, and big windows
- massive eat-in kitchen
- laundry room with washing machine
- large/flat backyard
- rents for rooms range from $375-475, depending on size and windows
- you can email for more pictures
The Neighborhood:
- mostly residential, with a few corner stores, restaurants, and a small farmers market within walking distance
- about halfway between lake merritt and fruitvale bart stations, a 10 min bike ride to either
- a few blocks from both Foothill and International Blvd, with access to many bus lines
- easy street parking
A pretty dreamy home, complete with views of sf and the bay from the second story windows.
The People:
Eric just got a job which will put is social work degree to work! He'll
be doing therapy with foster youth. He also provides trainings
on various topics related to anti-oppressive social work, plays in
a radical marching band, rides a bike, rides a bike some more and likes
to relax by cooking a nice meal or maybe watching some trashy tv
on the internet. Let's talk about whiteness and genderqueerness and
other
fun parts of my identity when we get to know each other a little bit more.
Emily teaches high school history, rides a bike (most days), reads
books, likes citrus, cooks comfort food, and tries to keep her desk
clean. She currently is interested in studying more latin american
history, gender and sexuality, transferring small town living to urban
areas, and tweaking the system.
Matt teaches afterschool programs centered on self-reliance and
relationships with peers through bicycling adventures all over the east
bay. Regular activities include reading 3 books at a time (and taking
forever to finish), baking, working on bikes, making artwork and/or
music with built in critiques of of militarism, sexism, and other
-isms, as well as just strumming or drumming mindlessly for fun.
IF YOU READ THIS FAR, YOU MUST BE INTERESTED! Please write us back and answer the following questions, and we'll be in touch!
what are your needs in a living situation?
what are your committments? how do they effect your use of and time in space at home?
what are some things you like the most about living with other
people? any pet peeves or things you can't stand that we should get on
the table now?
what do you do for money? can you pay first and last months rent,
along with deposit up front, or pretty close to up front? (roughly
$1,400)
Cleanliness in common space from 1 - 10? (1 not important, 10 extremely important)
