I restored to OSX release disk, formatting the disk on my iMac with
three overwrites. In all I wiped out over 300000 pirate files, taking
up 50 Gigabytes. LOLOL LOLOL LOLOL (A triply redundant triple of horse
laughs) Now THAT is a RUM deal for those hard working hackers, who now
must laboriously recreate their infections. Best of all, I can spend
one day per month, doing it over AGAIN and AGAIN until the pests
desist. I am monitoring the situation on my machine, which has a
persistent problem with several untrusted applications desperately
trying to get messages out/in. Looks like every website which I visit,
including Apple, Comcast, and Google, launches a couple dozen outgoing
connections to get in touch with confederates on the wild and wooly
web.
I was prompted to take this action because some greedy SOB hacked in
and started a fight with the hackers already on my machine. Symptoms
were gobbling up all the free memory, maxing out the CPU load, and
overheating the power supply. I don't particularly mind hackers on my
machine, especially not the official, professional ones, who tend to
curb the excesses of the amateurs. But making my machine hot enough to
smell burning metal was the LAST straw!
