Hey guys. so i got some new seismics this week for my evo- 85mm 79a.
I'm at the lake for the weekend and just went for a good 3mile cruise
but was trying to get some sliding/drifting in. I'm quite new to
sliding cuz i usually just do downhill. I was having a lot of trouble
breaking the wheels loose. I would lean way out toeside and put a
little more than half my weight on my hands but all id do is turn
instead of slide. Unfortunately i got a little roughed up on a couple
of the turns so now im wondering what im doing wrong. wrong wheels,
wrong board, wrong technique? i have some tunnel Tarantulas 70mm 84a
and Dregs Labeda 76mm as well. any advice?

wish i could help on the toeside stuff. chances are you're not going
fast enough. when you get back in the atlanta area i'm sure al can
help you out with that.

If your using the speedvents in that duro your going to have some problems. They have excellent grip and aren't known for their slides. The tarantulas are also a slalom wheel so not the best to learn slides on.

Will-
All those wheels look pretty grippy so I'd throw the Tarantulas on
there as there 84a's for starters or the Dregs if they're that hard
and/or broken in more.
Like John said,
try going faster
drop your back knee towards the board
start carving hard
put your rear puck hand on the ground
push your rear leg out to break the rear wheels loose and slide to a
stop
use both hands if you need to
or
grab your board with your front hand in front of your front foot
Initiate a hard carve and put your puck on the ground
you'll feel the wheels start to break and you'll start sliding a 180
(my heelside front wheel has the tendency to pop up at sometimes)
try doing this to a stop first then try it on a steeper hill and try
to swing it back around (pendy)

it's very important that you commit during this because if you try to
stand up during it your gonna highside in a bad way
good luck!

from what i've seen anything round-lipped will slide fine. as far as
learning goes the harder the wheel is the better off you'll be. i've
got some really hard round lipped wheels laying around if you're still
having issues when you get back in the atlanta area.

Im gunna keep trying all weekend but im probably gunna end up asking
for those cuz most of my wheels arent round lipped.

Any wheel can be brokenin for sliding. But those speedvents will take a bit longer...

i have durians in the mail... Can't wait to rip them to shreds..

Do keep in mind that it takes time to break wheels in...... HOWEVER,
for sliding, it is much easier with wheels over 81 or so in hardness

push down the hill with your back foot a little. that will break it

the slide. i aint found nothin yet that i cant slide.

yeah man, johns creek is so wack. there are over 50 cops assigned to
this small (now nazi-like) town. ive never thought of hitting spruill,
ill try that. Im on the other side of town off of Sargent/Jones
Bridge. if your not doin anything tomorrow im off of work and a couple
friends and I are skating around the area. maybe going to try out
mcdaniels farm park . let me know if your in and we can xchange
numbers. we've got 2 dervishes, a fibreflex pintail, a fibreflex 44"
cruiser, vanguard and a loaded pintail in rotation and you are free to
come and sample
