Hi all,

Thank you to everyone that came out to Mason and Taylor a couple weeks ago.  I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did!  The resounding question from everyone present was when will the next event be?

I can gladly announce that we will meet again at the Centre for Creative Collaboration on December 10th.  Drop in between 11am and 5pm and bring a project that you've been working on or one that you want to start.  It's a chance to devote some time to a project in the company of others.  Those that would just like to be social are welcome as well.  There's wifi and a kitchen, but you'll need to bring everything else that you would need.  Perhaps we can coordinate common tools?

Coffee and tea will be provided, but lunch will be up to you.  For more details and to RSVP go to http://learning.codasign.com/index.php?title=10_December,_2011_Project_Day

Also, this will be the last time I will send messages to both the soft-circuits-and-wearable-tech group and the london-threads-space group.  We will migrate to only the london-threads-space as it is the bigger, older list and has the better name.  If you are not on the london-threads list, I'll send an invite to you shortly or you can go here: http://groups.google.com/group/london-threads-space

See you on the 10th!
Becky

Hi everyone,

This is just a reminder that we're meeting tomorrow at C4CC.  If you haven't already, could you RSVP through the link just so we have an idea of how many people to expect.

We have the space booked from 11-5pm and everyone is welcome to come work the whole time, but we'll do a more formal introduction of everyone at 2pm.  So if you just want to pop in to say hi and see what's going on, come by at 2pm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Becky

It was a bit quiet (I think we got a peak of about 6 people) but a
pleasant day with some progress made on projects.

We had people working on talking pigs, led-endowed poppers,
sound-playing patchwork, and touch switches. And we had a good laugh
at Debbie's poor abused voodoo men (not for the squeamish).

We're not sure what happened to the huge enthusiastic crowd at Mason &
Taylor. Did we choose a bad day (too near Christmas) ? Or did people
think they had to bring a project (you didn't), it would have been
great to just chat in the relative peace of C4cc (we did that,
anyway). Or maybe we needed more beer.

Suggestions for next time very welcome.

I fell in the, " I thought I had to bring a project" category. I didn't have one, starting one in Jan 2012. Also, being near the holidays, the weekends got packed quick. Definitely, will be up for future work meetings.

Cheers,
Pollie

Hi Adrian,

I'm sorry I didn't make it.

My group of 3-4 friends that were interested in this meet-up couldn't come because they had Christmas commitments, so yes I think the date (busiest shopping day of the year) was a factor. Also, speaking for myself,  I fully intended to come but didn't have a techy project to share yet. It's all very new to me so I guess I felt that I might not have much to add to the group. I'm working on an upcycled childrens clothing project and it dawned on me on the day that I couldn't continue without a sewing machine and hadn't asked if there was one there. So sorry, bad planning on my part!

I'm committed to attending next year if the dates suit, and as long as I can work on what I need to. I love the idea of the group!

What equipment is available by the way? Is there a sewing machine that people can use available?

Kind regards,

Rachel

I wasn't able to make it mainly because it was a weekend. Having kids and a husband who is away from home a lot of the time means weekends aren't easy for me.

Am looking forward to the next one though!

Don't know about C4CC, but there's one (a fairly simple model) at the
hackspace. We could probably arrange to bring it along to wherever we
next meet, though it might be wise for you to check it out at the
hackspace first to make sure it's suitable.

Ooh, What a fab list of equipment! I didn't know about the hackspace... I must come and visit!

A simple sewing machine model will do just fine thank you. To save lugging it from a to b unnecessarily, do you want us to ask you to bring it if we need it for the next meet-up? Personally, I don't imagine I'dneed one every time I come =)

Perhaps not a question for this group but I'll ask anyway. I'd like to do some digital printing onto fabric but the bureaus are all rather expensive for my project idea. i found a link via google a while back where someone used a conventional Colour paper printer to print onto fabric. I'd love to do something similar but using a large printer (A3+). Does anyone have any thoughts on this please? It's for clothing so needs to be washable.

Thank you

A friend uses exactly that (on an A3 printer), he is in Hackspace too, but maybe not this group...
It looked good and professional! He was happy with the result. Do not know about washable, but I think it is...
I would go for it! I have done a lot of digital printing, and the result is amazing, but very pricey indeed. It looks the same as the printed version, however limited in scale, as far as I could tell.

Hope it helps!

bye

Start a separate thread in the thread-space google-group.

I'm interested.

The idea of fabric printers appeals to me. As for water-washable, try
re-filling an ink-cartridge with fabric dye instead of ink.

The variability of the fabric's behaviour compared with the relatively
uniform flatness of paper, makes it an interesting engineering
problem...
