The laser cutter, being our only quantum tool, is both in a working/non working state, as it should be.

No, we're still waiting for a replacement power supply. When it's

How much is a replacement? Is it worth us getting together a pledge so we can order a new one while they assess the other one?

There is no gurantee it won't be defective like the last one. There was
a spare tube fund mooted before, i'm not sure what the status on that is.

We haven't seen the point in holding a spare PSU in stock - it's not
historically been a component which fails often and it's quite an
expensive part.

(Tubes, on the other hand, we do aim to keep in stock.)

I wasn't meaning hold a spare in stock, more ask the HPC if they'd be willing to 'cross ship' (well okay more like ship us another one while they verify ours is actually DOA). If we're confident it's the PSU and the new PSU was DoA then I'd be happy to front a little money to get us up and going again more quickly.

They're not. They claim this PSU was tested before it was shipped.

I know it can be frustrating to have to wait on a tool to be repaired, but please know that those repairing it want it back online as badly as you and are working to get it online as fast as possible :)

It's always slower to get things done with trade companies at this time of year.

Whether it's getting deliveries, or getting tests done, remember they're partying the same way you are.
