BEWARE: the bike thieves are on heat at Hoxton Station

Hey all FYI my bike was stolen from Hoxton station. I only just bought it like a few months ago and I am gutted. Kinda relied on it to get me around London while i am on low income, volunteering with cryptoparty and making the new version of Sukey.

1) Does anyone have a massive fucking chain and padlock I can borrow for a couple of months?
2) Does anyone have a bike (to be locked up with [1]) in reasonable condition that is working but but being used much or could be repaired with basic servicing, again to borrow for a couple of months?

p.s. yes trolls, now that I don't have a bike I cannot leave it in the workshop. lol rofl lmfao etc etc.

You can get motorbike chains from Brick Lane market for a couple of
quid.

I'm using a heavy-duty padlock, i got from a builders yard.

I'll ask around for bicycles.

Hmm, that might well be an issue - shopping for a lock solely on price is a bad idea. Spend £1 on a bike lock and you get what you pay for...

I'd suggest dropping £30 or so on a proper motorbike grade U lock, one of the smaller ones, and locking it through the back wheel to the immovable object. It might still get stolen, but at least they will need power tools.

Just to corroborate, I had my wheels taken in broad daylight about a month ago. The frame was secured with a modest Kryptonite Evolution U lock, which they didn't bother to touch, but they snipped the cable and took the wheel. I had presumed that they weren't worth the bother, but clearly not. Have just invested in a second U lock recommended by the lfgss list. My bolts were undone on a prior occasion, so I presume that this was targeted. Probably an idea to move it around on different occasions.

Related to this thread, I've previously left feedback with Hoxton Overground station (via their official feedback form available from behind the counter) about opening up the parking past the main entrance (through the gating).  It seems like an empty space which *could* be a secure bicycle parking depot (similar to that at Finsbury Park), or simply opened up for public access to park bicycles - it already has bicycle stands.

Also related, a project I've been working on for a while now, to build a Bicycle Movement Alert (for use in situations where you're within short range of your locked bicycle) is in the process of made open source.  I'm intending to demonstrate the latest version at the LHS Arduino meet-up tonight at 7pm.

Apologies that I have not written for so long.  It has taken much longer than I anticipated to get hold of the drawings of Hoxton station.

The yard area you hoped could be used for cycle parking is reserved as a service area for a future tenancy in one of the railway arches.  The current cycle parking outside the station is not within our lease boundaries so we are unable to install any further racks here.  

I am sorry that we are unable to increase the cycle parking provision at present.  We are looking at locations where we can increase parking, we have recently asked all our staff for location suggestions.
