Has anyone heard of Mintcoin? It seems to be "similar" to the Bitcoin idea. (Please don't start a flamewar about it not being like Bitcoin.)

"MintChip is based on two technical propositions: the creation of secure integrated circuit chips to hold electronic value and a secure protocol that allows the transfer of value from one chip to another and ensures the integrity of the MintChip system. It operates without the need for personal identification, thereby maintaining the user’s privacy."

I heard about it at a talk today and was surprised it even existed.

Anyone heard of it?

thanks,
Bernard

Without reading too much into it, it sounds nothing like BitCoin.
BitCoin is a (as-good-as) decentralised system backed by the mathematics
of time; MintChip claims to be "backed by the Canadian government" etc
which probably means it's a highly centralised system with root keys
like SSL.

I only accept hard cash. If you can't break a window with it, I don't
accept it.
