Hi,

Does anyone know where I could get some rubbery resin for silicone casting? Preferably black color.

I've got my silicone cast and looking for the resin (about 15g only). $D shop has Vytaflex but it's far too much in the bottle and is priced at £32.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Miguel

Do you mean latex?

Hi Glen,

Wonder if it would be a little too flexible. Ideally something similar to silicone. Since my cast is silicone I can't use silicone...

Just tried googling latex and the results on the Google images are quite awakening :)

Hellishly expensive though, and often poor performing.

TOMPS for rigid PU resins and silicone. MBFG for foams and urethane rubbers.

Hey, I used to work at Tiranti, yes expensive but its a shop

Casting any type of silicone into silicone is difficult, not impossible but you need a lot of release agent, if you screw up you mould will be ruined.

PU is better, although watch out some polyurethanes can be inhibited by the type of silicone you use. ( I cant quite remember but it was something like tin cure is bad, just read the label on the bottle or leaflet)

If you can, the best moulds are rigid fibreglass or PU as contrasting rigid against flexible is easier to mould

Another heads up; TOMPS does PU rubbers too which are cheaper than the
MBFG ones. But the TOMPS rubbers have differing mix ratios and a far
longer cure time. TOMPS for price, MBFG for ease & reliability. MBFG
rubbers do have a slight brown tint tho.
