I don't think you can get enough finger control with a soldering iron, because you can't hold it near enough to the tip. I was thinking of a spare wire-loop handle like this one : http://www.peterchild.co.uk/osc/spare-pen-p-30.html Or, of course, his complete set - if you only buy a pen, it will need a fairly chunky power supply, I'd think at least 5A and ours our mostly 2-3A.
