The laser cutter was cutting perfectly this morning for a job of around 5-10 minutes on 3mm acrylic. Then I started the next job and it started etching lines wobbly. It did still cut but I didn't want to keep using it until someone more knowledgeable than me looked at it in case it made it worse. No settings where changed and I'm not sure why it's doing this, it could just be something simple but I'm not sure what.

I have put a note on the machine saying it's not behaving quite right.

Any ideas anyone?

Yeah there should be one attached to this message now.

The 'T' was when it was ok, then the 'C' is what happened next.

Thanks, was it engraving engraving, or a fast cut?

It looks to me that the alignment has drifted off. Can you note on the cutter that it is out of order and should not be used?

Thanks

Yes I shall but a note on there.

Ooooh ok :)

There isn't any chance your about tonight is there Sol? Really wanted to get this job finished before tomorrow night.
But don't take this as me trying to hint that you should come in specially, because I'm definitely NOT. I'm just enquiring if you where already around anyway, otherwise I'll hunt around and see if there's another laser cutter around London available at short notice :)

Just had some fun with the cutter.

It had managed to throw itself wildly out of alignment and was scattering the beam around the inside of the cutter. I have fixed this and also addressed the alignment on the bean downwards, so the edges of cuts will be more vertical now.

The lasercutter is now open for business again.

<3 Thanks Sol!

Incidentally, that reminds me: I'd be very interested in learning to help maintain/fix the cutter in future, if possible.
