Subject: "From NAND to Tetris" - does anyone want to take or teach this?

I just came across this via Hack a Day: http://www.nand2tetris.org/

It looks like an excellent introduction to computer science, giving a good
overview and understanding of the field at all levels of abstraction. Plus,
it looks like a great deal of fun.

Are people on the list interested in taking the course? I think I could
teach it, particularly if others with experience at the 'space want to
pitch in.

For that matter, there's been talk on the list of fundraising
possibilities. Perhaps this could be one - we could open the course to the
public, and charge a moderate fee that gets donated to the hackspace.

Anyone interested?

-Nick

Very interesting, thanks for passing it on…
I'm going to work my way through it so if there is interest then I would help teach it.

this looks great - I am going to order the book and see what my Oliver
makes of it - he sounded quite excited when I explained it to him ...

thanks again

While several people replied that they were going to do the course
themselves, nobody expressed interest in an organized course - so I'm
afraid it'll have to be self study.

I am interested in looking into this - I have the book on order
I am also interested to see how my (somewhat precocious) son would take to
it

Did many people get started with this Nand to Tetris course?

if so, I am wondering if anyone would be interested in a small group meetup
about it?

This project is something I've been considering for a while. I'd vey
much be interested in a focus group, as doing it in a group setting is
more likely to keep my attention.

though. When do people want to do this?

OK

I only skimmed the start of the book - I was initially trying to gauge
whether my (14yr) son might get something from it.
Oliver went through the first 5 chapters and ended up with a design for the
CPU to run on the emulator but then got stuck at chapter 6 because of the
programming required.  So I directed him on a diversion to learn some
Python and he has now written the assembler

What I was hoping for was for others who might be interested in having
Oliver around for any discussions about this - and maybe who he might be
able to pick up some coding tips from
I would plan to be there with him even though I haven't got very deep into
the book and I might even try to find some time to go through the book
myself.

I'm not sure how any sort of meetup would work but I wanted to put out some
feelers to see if there might be some interest

What thoughts do you have on this?

Simon
