For the last few weeks when I check the 3 week bins I keep finding the desk fans, even the big fan got dumped over by the bins at one point.

When I move them back people seem to be quite delighted to have them on and a few people were quite surprised that they'd been put in the 3 week bins.

People seem to like them, they make the space far more pleasant when it's crowded or hot.

I stuck some do-not-hack stickers on them but I thought I'd best mail the list in case there's some major anti-fan lobby I'm not aware of.

People may be keeping to the rules which state anything left out on workbenches overnight may be cleared away into the 3 week bin...

if anyone was being that obsessive I'd expect them to be sticking the power strips in there as well.

To be fair, I wouldn't expect people to still be operating fans in autumnal London. Ymmv.

True, but most people don't throw their fans out each year and buy new ones the following summer.

The unique thing about hackspace is that you can actually do this. Someone will always have a spare fan they're willing to donate, rather than trying to store a fan in the hackspace for half the year.

Also one of the fans is marked as someone's who never notified the mailing list of its existence so it should go in the 3 week bin. Or someone could take it home.

I really think we shouldn't be relying on someone donating a fan, when they are pretty essential in summer.  Usually this 'donation' is one of us getting pissed off and going down the shop to buy one (which I did last year). I think a little common sense has to prevail and say that just because its a bit cooler now, doesn't mean we won't need them again next year, so we should keep them around.  Besides, its not like a few fans around are gunna take up a huge ammount of room.

We should probably keep a good supply at the space, probably 4 - 5 at least, reasons are numerous, to keep us hackers cool.  They can be used for cool smoke effects if we ever need them, and also if global warming suddenly takes a turn for the worse, and we end up with a december day in the mid 30's, we'll be happy we kept them

samthetechie put them in the 3 week bins on Sunday. We discussed it,
and neither of us could think of a good reason to keep them at the
time. Common sense prevailed and they were binned. Now we've seen
people want them, they probably won't be binned again.
