I just wanted to bring to people's attention that the "Project Eternity" Kickstarter project being run by the creators of Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Fallout is about to end. They are proposing to create a new game in the old RPG style, which will combine the best elements of these games with strong storytelling.
The Kickstarter site is here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity .
It's got about 2 hours left until the Kickstarter shuts down at 9pm Eastern time in North America, and last I checked they are about $200,000 US off their final goal.
Basically, some of the key designers and artists from the above games formed Obsidian Entertainment a few years back and they have been trying to get an "old-style" RPG funded for awhile. They had big problems getting a publisher for the idea, and so they started the Kickstarter to go direct to fans. The new game they are proposing looks like it might well be freaking amazing. Please take a look and consider joining me in supporting this!
A part of the description from the site:
Obsidian Entertainment and our legendary game designers Chris
Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer are excited to bring you a new
role-playing game for the PC. Project Eternity (working title) pays homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.
Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination,
depth, and nostalgia of classic RPG's that we enjoyed making - and
playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those
classic games and we want to bring those games back… and that’s why
we’re here - we need your help to make it a reality!
Project Eternity
will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense
combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale,
and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic
exploration of Planescape: Torment.

Bottom line, go look at the world map, screenshots, character art and lore they've released and tell me you're not excited. ;) They're beautiful.
