Subject: Nuts

I'm restocking the workshop nut & bolt selection. Some are already done and
there's a budget for more.

We can't stock everything, but your (sensible) suggestions for further
sizes are welcome at http://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Fasteners .

I was heavily dissapointed to find out the variety of nuts you mentioned
were nothing to do with the ones on special offer in Tescos :(

(Thanks for the restock though!)

I left a copy of the "Bolt & Bearing" catalogue in the library. Their
prices are pretty good. Just divide down from the x1000 quantities.

Can't help but think that the "Bolt and Bearing" catalogue sounds like it
comes in a plain brown wrapper and lives on the top shelf of the newsagent.

All the pages are colour glossy-print too. Scandalous!

It would be great to have a selection of
M3 x 10mm Socket Cap Allen Head bolts
M4 x 10mm Socket Cap Allen Head bolts
M6 x 10mm Socket Cap Allen Head bolts
M3 x 20mm Socket Cap Allen Head bolts
M4 x 20mm Socket Cap Allen Head bolts
M6 x 20mm Socket Cap Allen Head bolts

(I am not sure if I have the name exactly right.. )

Yes, we plan to have a good stock of these.

There are already M3 x 10 and M4 x 16, I'm interested to know what other
lengths would be useful (and glad of your suggestion).

m4 allen head in various lengths up to 50mm are always useful
M8 would be good as well, but they get a lot pricier for larger sizes so
probably not cost effective to buy hundreds of them.

This is getting quite specialist - but camera tripods have imperial sizes.
If people need to mount a camera on something (bike, skateboard, kite etc)
then allen head bolts in these following sizes are really useful and
cheaper than buying a special camera mount.

1/4 inch with a thread count of 20 threads per inch (1 inch and 2 inch
lengths)

3/8 inch with a thread count of 16 threads per inch  (1 inch and 2 inch
lengths)

They are normally referred to as "1/4-20" and "3/8-16".

Subject: Re: Nuts

Hi, Good initiative!

Some M2 would be great to, Some times people build small things in the
space.
Bear in mind it easier to shorten a bolt than lengthen it. So try get some
commonly used length and a few much longer for custom length.

Would be cool to go for both standard Socket head and countersunk socket
head.

Would be great to have selection of material, Stainles ,Self color  &  Some
surface treated steel.

Straight threaded rod in  M2-M12  (-M7&M9&M11) would be cool as well.

M8( i-think) standard pitch works good together with the T-bolts for
clamping stuff with the X/Y table for the mill..  (flanged socket head)
Maby from 3-8 cm in various length) To be stored next to the milling
machine. Today(last time I checked 1 month ago) our variation of length are
limiting good clamping.

/Jakob
