Guys, the first Hackspace Go Workshop was a complete success!
We decided to do it every two weeks from now on.
On Tuesdays HS is usually quite busy, we are going to try to keep the
event in a corner of the quiet room. If there's any inconvenience just
let us know in this discussion and we'll try to find a solution.
Next event will be on May 2nd. We are preparing:
- A short speech from someone relevant
- Lessons for beginners
- Free play

I wasn't there, but really seems like a bad idea to me.

Actually, how the mailing list works is that you post a request to
hold an event and then we all discuss how this will work out for
everyone in the Hackspace community. You do not get to decide outright
and then tell us what's going on based on your personal perception of
the situation.

It wasn't that busy last night and yet you took up the majority of the
room for the majority of the evening. This is really not a good thing
as the quiet room is the only sanctuary for anyone wanting to get work
done on a computer on a Tuesday night.
Can we discuss a different time/date for this planned event, please?
I was ejected from the quiet room last night during the Go workshop. The first I knew about the Go workshop was when I arrived and saw a note in the corner about it. It takes me an hour to get to Hackspace, and consequently I didn't really get anything done that I wanted to. I'd have been more narked if I hadn't signed up for the laser cutter training, at least I got something done.
I'm still relatively new around Hackspace, but if this Tuesdays Go thing becomes regular, then I'm probably going to leave.

To slightly paraphrase that, it seems a few people are rightly concerned that this takes away a lot of space, so let's figure out how best to schedule it. Tuesdays are probably out of the question. (See also Sam's thread.) Maybe alternate on Mondays with the 3D group, as proposed?
The mailing list is a crucial part in scheduling an event; it may take a few days to reach a decision, but it's usually a good one that pleases everyone/most people.

Hi guys, I attended the go workshop last night and enjoyed it - I'm glad it's coming together but agree that it does take up a lot of space and the quiet room is probably not the best option for it. Here's an idea - perhaps we could move it to another night as suggested and have our training / speaker section of the evening in the hackspace, maybe on the couches. However, when it comes to the more voluminous section of the evening - everyone playing eachother - we head down to the basement of Morretti's cafe (who is now opening to 11) where there is enough space and always empty. This benefits him as he'll get a bit of business and it means that there is no problem if non members would like to join in.

I like Ryan's idea of moving the party at Morettti after talk/presentation. Alternatively since Thursday evening are now free (Music Hackspace peeps meet at Martin's), bi-monthly go event could happen then.
