Hi all

A couple weeks ago I had a discussion with Quentin Johns, who is working for the Hub Westminster. He mentioned projects involving Makers the Hub would like to develop. And he'd really like the Hackpace members to come share their creations and skills, during 2 different sets of events:
- Workshops / talks / lectures / meet up groups / discussions / panel talks (hosted evenings and weekends)
- Makers Festival (twice a year)

Please let me know asap if you are interested (and for which project) so I can relay the information to him.

Additionally for those up for it, their will be a meeting soon at the Hub (probably 2nd August) where we'll discuss in an open way the ideas and objectives of the events.

You'll find below a summary of what they're looking for.

cheers

M

Hub Westminster is seeking to build a vibrant Makers community to join our global community of
social entrepreneurs and innovators. Our ambition is to collectively build conversations that will
shape the new economy and new society. We are inviting you to be a part of this conversation.
...
As part of our plan to build a Makers community, we would like to:
  • Hold regular workshops, events and lectures.
  • Hold an annual Makers festival.
  • Integrate our existing infrastructure for social entrepreneurship with the requirements of
  • Makers from around London, the UK, and the globe.
  • Curate content and structure which would be suggested and developed by the community.
  • Develop multidisciplinary collaborations whose purpose is to solve challenges that the
  • Makers community, Hub members, and the wider global population are facing.
We are seeking proposals for the following:

- Workshops / talks / lectures / meet up groups / discussions / panel talks

They can be on anything you think that your community or our community would be interested in.
Especially interesting would be overlaps between several disciplines. We would like to run these in
the evenings and weekends in our central London space on a regular basis as well as having them
provide the content for our annual or possibly twice yearly Makers festival.

- Makers Festival

The makers festival we would see as a large gathering for makers to meet, discuss, and display their
skills, inventions, projects and applications as well as garner support for them (possibly introducing
them to pitch panel of VC’s?).

The maker’s festival could be a combination of all of the above formats and may be spread over
several days with different overarching themes.

Sound fun Marc,

I believe I could make a presentation/lecture about the making of Book of Light and modifying the machine to produce it.

I also like to get involved in a bicycle design event focusing on pushing more people and transport functions onto bicycles.

Would be happy to discuss this further.

regards
Jakob

I got lots of replies about this call out for workshops, talks and Maker Fair, sorry I haven't had time to get back to you all but will do soon.

I've actually met Quentin from the Hub Westminster this morning to discuss about the format of the events.

For all interested can you send me asap a proposal (details for workshops, subjects for talks or panel discussions).

Also I've proposed to Quentin to come next Tuesday evening so you can all have a chat with him.

Marc

PS: Jakob, sounds great, could you send me more details and links for both ideas?

Tomorrow night Quentin from the Hub Westminster will drop by for the weekly social night,
So if you'd like to run a workshop or a talk at the hub, have a chat with him.

We'll also discuss maker faire plans and a possible panel about hacker/maker spaces they'd like to organise there.

For people asking earlier, the Hub works as a co-op and gives back 65% of their benefits to social enterprise.
