On Tuesday I was told it'd be a good idea to ask this on the list to get
the attention of the lockpickers.

I have an old keycutting machine. It's in pieces at the moment as I was
going to try and sell the motor alone (as ebay keeps pulling the auction
for the whole machine as it's a "lockpicking tool").

It's basically a manual X-Y table with a stop and key-blank holder, and
a right-angle Parvalux motor. You trace an existing key along the stop
and the cutter grinds a matching pattern in the blank. Only really any
good for yale and mortice keys.

I can reassemble it and lend it to the space, but I doubt it would be
much use. I'd also be happy to sell it if an individual lockpicker is
interested in it. Open to offers.

Honestly, this is a genuinely useful tool if it works. The number of
keys we have to pay to get cut is daft, and having a facility in the
space would be ace.

How large is it?

A quick eBay search suggests "yes".

alright, alright, enough already!

yes there was a 1min 9sec gap which I agree is unacceptable.
I am clearly getting old, no longer capable of full duplex messaging.

Not huge. Base is about 35cm square? I haven't actually measured it.
It's fairly heavy though. All steel & cast iron.
I have reassembled it as I've had a couple of email enquiries.

It needs a new cutting disk (about 1.25" dia, IIRC), a clamp making for
the master-key holder (piece of steel with holes in, two bolts, a
spring. Copy key-blank clamp.), and a thumbscrew or two to lock the
clamp swing-arm (probably 3/8" whitworth, I'll check my bolts bin).

The wiring could use tidying up and a new plug, but it turns over fine
and before I lost the cutting wheel I used it now and then to cut thin
brass stock.

There does seem to be a non-optimal distribution of intelligence there, yes.

Some of the blanks are in football team colours; presumably the idea is that
you take your otherwise-hard-to-obtain blank to the locksm^Wcobblers.

blanks are not an issue we have several trading locksmiths and even a tool maker on the regulars in the picking meet.  if the key cutter is of use the the space then it may be a good source of income blanks are very cheap.  I have no idea what a key cut in london costs but i imagein its around teh £3/5 mark.

I will be down on the 14th early again for the next lockpickers meet and I am sure we can figure something out.

I would recomend keepign it around, if it does go for sale I have been after one but I think if you can afford the space all the locals gettign keys through the space would generate some decent cash flow.
