If anyone is wombling I'd really really like a front crank arm, pedal
and cog. Just a single - no deraillieur or anything fancy. My single
speed has been out of action and I've spent a good couple of hours
getting it prepped. I hate being without a bike and rely on it a lot.
So if anyone is out and about grabbing bits for the space, please keep
your eyes peeled! I'd be much obliged and will ply you with beer! :)
Cheers
Ben
PS Before the haters say anything, I also cleaned up the bike area
significantly ;)
In my head I'm reading this equivalent to; "I need some bits for my computer, it needs a CPU of some sort." Or "My car needs a new engine part, can someone look out for one?"
There's lots of different crank arm fixing types and lengths. There's also several different mounting systems for front sprockets (centre mounted? Chainring on web, and on what mounting centres? Pinned?).
I had cause to look in the bike parts about a week ago and there were dozens of these parts in the drawers (sprockets and cranks). If there weren't suitable bits in there, I can only presume it's a really specific or rare part type you're after.

Because im not aware of exact numbers Im just putting out a request
for general front cogs, arms and pedals. We currently have about 4
front cogs now I've donated the previous. I could do with another but
these are the things we are most short of, along with rims/wheels that
arent bent. We are fairly well stocked for other things at the moment.
Just hoping the womblers come back with some nice things else its off
to the shops.
We dont actually have that many useful parts in this instance sadly. I
only managed to find one replacement pedal that actually wasnt such a
good replacement and promptly sheared off, stripping the thread on the
crank arm, hence the need for a replacement. Now its removed, I need
to get a front cog that mounts with a matching crank arm. It doesnt
need to be specific but needs to mount to the crank with a reasonable
ratio to the rear cog (again, not massively bothered about that). The
one I had mounted to the crank and had several small arms that bolted
to the front cog. I dont know what that type is however.
I'll be looking on the eBay's too but if the bike wombles are around,
any old bits *may* do, but even if not, its the thought that counts.

Used bike parts are generally no good, why would anyone take off
perfectly working ones...
Last time I looked at the spare parts they were all in worse condition
that the 16 year old ones i wanted to replace on my bike.

Hahah, fair point. Maybe thats a thing to take into account. At the
moment though, we have a good selection of mudguards, reflectors and
lights that I'll need to take advantage of once my new crank arm and
cog arrives :P

I recommend the 56a DIY bike workshop
<http://56abikespace.wordpress.com/>near Elephant and Castle, they
have used and new bike parts to swap or sell
for really really cheap.
