I'm researching fitting two skylight units to my van. One will be for
daylight purposes, the other used to allow a wood-burning stove to be
installed and have the flue pass through it.
I haven't been to the space for ages but did go a while back, and have been
on this list for ages. I am not (yet) a member, and this would be my first
hardware hacking project.
Questions I have:
Are there the right tools to cut through the steel roof of a van
reasonably cleanly and accurately?
Is there a way to get power out to the van whilst we're working on it? (ISTR
the space being quite some way from the car park/yard)
(more from a self-confidence point of view) Is anyone interested in giving
me a hand?
There's a compressed-air driven nibbler that would probably do it, and
may be an air saw. But I don't think there's enough cable to run the
compressor in the car park without being in the way of other tenants.

IIRC someone who worked downstairs seemed to think they'd be okay parking a milkfloat under the balcony to charge it. Asking if you could swap parking spots for a day to run a lead down sounds eminently reasonable by comparison.

i used to live in a van i kitted out myself, and found that a jig-saw with
a metal-cutting blade worked well for putting in my skylight and
woodburner. good luck! lindsay
