Further (again) to enthusiastic discussions in the pub last night: I'm planning a Miracle Fruit Party for the Hackspace.

There's a type of berry called "miracle fruit", and I'm getting freezedried tablets of it. Roll 'em around on your tongue, and all the sour and bitter receptors are numbed for about half an hour. Lemons taste sweet. Tabasco sauce tastes like "hot doughnut glaze". Believe me - it's a hell of a thing. More details are, of course, on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synsepalum_dulcificum - and a gushing New York Times writeup of what a miracle fruit party is like is here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/28/dining/28flavor.html

Pending the mailing list's consensus: I'm planning it for a maximum of 20 people, in the quiet room, on a Sunday in June, with the cost at £5 a head. That'd include a large miracle fruit tablet each and plenty of food (including lemons and limes), plus non-alcoholic drinks and a pack of antacid tablets for afterwards. (You'll need them.)

If this sounds interesting, you can add your name to the wiki here: http://wiki.hackspace.org.uk/wiki/Miracle_Fruit_Party
And you can help pick a date here: http://www.doodle.com/cfaypw8dwwh5fg8n

This...

"One woman wanted to see Mr. Aliquo eat a berry before she tried one.
“What, you don’t trust me?” he said.

She replied, “Well, I just met you.”

Another guest said, “But you met him on the Internet, so it’s safe.”"

...made me laugh. Signing up does make me feel a bit like I'm signing
up for something much dodgier.

Sounds like fun though - was talking to someone about it only a couple
weeks ago, oddly enough.

Okay, there's now clearly enough interest for this. It will be happening, but first I need to tie down the date of the Redsands Fort visit so we don't clash. As soon as that's done, I'll start sorting this out!
