I don't think Charles' point was so much to do with memberships but more to do with how booking the space actually works and consideration for other users of the space.
I am almost certainly misreading your email but it appears that your proposed solution is to become a member and encourage the members of your group to do likewise and thus 'meet and talk' which sounds like an 'event' to me….
My apologies if I am wrong here but as Charles was saying if you intend to have a group meet in the space be ye members or nay then please do book it.
