To the chap who asked about learning Russian, apologies your name escapes me now.

I should have continued.. as I said I had lessons, but only really to learn the grammar, and the following 2 books were invaluable:

Grammar

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Comprehensive-Russian-Blackwell-Reference-Grammars/dp/1405136391/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b

Verbs

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Russian-Barrons-Foreign-Language-Guides/dp/0764137433/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1351197138&sr=1-2

I only had about a dozen lessons though, but of course being in Russia at the time it allowed for plenty of practice..

I don’t know whether you were considering lessons, but I request recently from another and am actively trying to find a decent affordable teacher. My brother is a possibility for that but he has yet to decide. Unlike me he can actually explain grammar etc. in either language.

I’m happy to offer free profanity practice anytime.

And.. if I can find it I have an excellent audio course somewhere, I’ll have a dig around.

Cheers

Paddy

Random!
But I might as-well add to this:
http://www.sharedtalk.com/ is a webchat I've found about recently that's focused specifically on improving your language skills, they have quite a few languages there so if you need practice it's a good way to go.

Having grown up in 6 countries I can safely say the best way to learn a language is to practice it, especially languages like Russian there are so many grammar rules and you'll waste a lot of time learning language use that you are unlikely to see in day to day communication.

Hope that helps someone

I have used Livemocha in the past to get the intro into languages. The lessons are structured similar to the Rosetta Stone, but are community-based and free up to a point. http://livemocha.com/pages/learn-languages/

Or you can get the classes from the source: http://www.russiancentre.co.uk/

Have fun!
