Hi,

Silverprint is getting rid of a Canon IR33201 copier machine (one of the big ones that can be connected to the network and used as fax/printer). Apparently it needs some servicing, and it needs to be picked up before Wednesday.

Would the space find it useful? Does anyone have the means to pick it up (van or similar)?

Cheers

Ruben

Not sure there would be a need for it....plus they are hellishly expensive to maintain/buy consumables for.

That'd be a good point...

On the plus side you can usually configure them so that each user pays the right amount for what they print :)

I have asked them whether they know what service it needs anyway.

It's very tempting, but it has a large footprint, and some replacement parts are prohibitively expensive. At our current print levels we're better off with the smaller lasers that turn up regularly.

one interesting point to note about these large document printers/scanners/copiers is that they often store the documents locally on a hard disk and they don't do a secure delete so if the disk falls into the wrong hands then it is possible to recover a lot of the documents that have ever been printed or scanned on the device

Might be worth mentioning this to Silverprint in case they value their internal information ...

From a parting it out POV, there's going to be little difference
between it and a big laser printer. So none of the fun optics, gears and
fine-pitch chains you used to get in the old analogue copiers.
