Subject: preserving jars
There are a number of very good preserving jars in the kitchen.
Unfortunately they're using our limited glass storage space.

I've no idea where these came from - were they donated  ? To the space
? For members to use ?

I can't see us doing any significant amount of fruit preserving any
time soon, so could we move these on please ?

Perhaps anyone keen to use them could take them away, or we could
freecycle them. If the original owner had other ideas, please speak
up.

I believe Mark bought these. If they're going, I'd like one or two.

Wasn't there someone trying to carbonate fresh fruit as well? he might find
some of the small ones useful.

I think they might explode under that kind of pressure

not sure what pressure he was working at, the big ones definitely would.
some of the small ones looked pretty thick.

A whipping siphon is actually the best and easiest way to carbonate fruit
(and many other things).

I'm all for helping out a preserving day in the Space if that's the aim?
I've got a jam jar funnel (useful for filling jars without getting goop on
the rims) and a jelly bag strainer tripod thing.

got a proper jam pot like this?
http://rk.wsimgs.com/wsimgs/rk/images/dp/wcm/201221/0069/img83b.jpg

I was warned by someone who made lots that flat sided pots lead to a lot
more problems with it boiling over.

I wonder if you could carbonate jam as it's setting....

I actually got them for sweets, etc. to keep them safe and dry in the
kitchen, but I realise I got a few more than needed.  Feel free to grab one
for a suitable donation to the pot if you like.
