Hi all,

Are there any of those 5v 50amp power supplies available from the jumbotron?

I would like one for a project. If there are any, can someone let me know
where they are or drop one in my box (marked toby catlin)

thanks

toby

Hi Toby.

We've probably got another 10 or so Meanwell SP-320-5 PSUs for
disposal.

As long as people promise me they're not getting "hacked off" with me
dumping all our old electronics on the Hackspace, I'll drop them off
one evening.

Please note, just like the previous batch of PSUs, they are all marked
FAULTY. This may be a fuse replacement or it may be a complete
Fukushima melt down - You'll have to cherry pick the best from the
batch.

Also, please shout if any more Jumbotron modules are required - We've
still got approx 190 of them !

Cheers

Tom

I have about 20 more 5v PSUs and 8 more Jumbotron units in the boot of
my car this morning.

Can drop them off today if they are still wanted.

Cheers

I'd be interested in some of these, please. I can remove them from the
space at the weekend.

Hey folks.

Once again, we have about 30 Meanwell SP-320-5 PSUs heading for the scrap
heap at work. ( http://www.meanwell.com/search/SP-320/default.htm )

They have all failed due to being non conformally coated (even though we
specified from our supplier that they MUST be conformally coated but lets
not go there !!!)

Any interest folks ?

I can divert a box to the Hackspace if anyone's interested.

If not - we'll dump them next week.

Cheers

Tom

Would be lovely to have one permanently under every desk/table in the main electronics room with a pair of banana plugs.

I would love one, would be used for charging a project for emf camp :)

When do you think you would have chance to drop them in the space, or are
they there already?

With my recent frollicking into servo-motors, I'm interested in a
couple. Could use something readily capable of powering many servos at once.

What is the definition of "conformally coated" though? The first and
simplest guess is they're not all the same colour?

Conformal coating is basically a form of varnish that the PCB is dipped
into to moisture proof the board. It is sometimes called "Tropicalizing"
because damp tropical air is very destructive of electronic equipment
generally. Very good for protecting the board but an absolute b*****d when
one is trying to replace components!

For the many people that are interested in these supplies, there are a
large quantity of Non working / untested ones in the workshop (piled up on
top of the toolboard). Feel free to take as many of these as you wish but
if you want to test them in the space then please use a light bulb in
series with the 240v feed because some of them have failed with a short
circuit across the input!

Tripping the breaker supplying the main room (and Babbage) is unlikely to
win one many friends.
