TWO companies yesterday announced they were working towards building a $7.5 billion coal-to-liquid fuel mine and processing plant in the Territory.

Explorer Central Petroleum has signed a deal with assets developer Allied Resource Partners to raise money for the project. The aim is to exploit what could be the world's biggest coal field.

Central Petroleum has exploration rights over a vast stretch of the Pedirka, Amadeus and Southern Georgina basins near Alice Springs.
