Hello!

This Sunday, 4/21, is the world premiere of Do The Math!, the new film by 350.org climate action!

This morning, I woke at 4:30 a.m. to the deluge of a thunderstorm, rain which is now washing away river banks and flooding roads.  I could not fall back asleep, so I checked my Facebook, and read about this film screening event about climate change (also see email at bottom).

At 5:30, I received a phone call from the school where I teach, that road were impassible and the start of school would be delayed.

By 6:30, the flood waters closed the major freeway, US-131, near where I live, and my school was cancelled for the day.  A few free hours ahead of me, I visited my local township office, and asked if a room was available to host a free screening on Sunday night.

Coincidence perhaps, but climate change causes extreme weather events, such as the record rainfall in Michigan this month.  Warmer air, warmer bodies of water, more moisture, and changing weather patterns.  Just last month, I interviewed Peter Sinclair, author of Climate Denial Crook of the Week (on YouTube), and he explained that climate change doesn't just mean hot and dry, it also can mean much more snow, and much more rain.

Was it coincidence or serendipity that for the first time in my teaching career, torrential rain closed my school, and a film premiere on climate change was begging for a venue?

A few minutes ago, I secured this board room venue here in Middleville, and I see that literally hundreds more screenings are set up around the USA and the world.  I invite you to click on this link to RSVP to this screening, or a screening near you, or to host your own event!

Climate change is happening.  It is real.  It is serious.  And the numbers all add up to the need for action.

I invite you to join with me and the millions of like-minded.

And best wishes to you,

Aaron

Subject: A movie about the movement.

Friends,

On Sunday, April 21st -- what we’re calling “Earth Night” -- 350.org will premiere a film about our work and our growing movement.

It features the big tour we did across the country last fall, and so the film is also called “Do the Math.” The trailer for the movie was just released a few minutes ago -- check it out:

On the night of April 21st, people will gather in hundreds of living rooms and libraries across the country for the premiere of the movie. Meeting in person is the lifeblood of our movement, and we hope that gathering to watch this snazzy film can be an opportunity to connect with new people and grow the movement locally.

I’ve already had a chance to preview the movie; it is an inspiring, beautiful, and fast-paced story that shows the power of the growing climate movement. It clocks in at 42-minutes -- and it packs a lot in: from the cross-country tour we did last year, to the latest dispatches from leaders in the fight to stop Keystone XL, to the campaign to divest from fossil fuels.

You won’t want to miss it. Click here to watch the the trailer and join (or create!) an Earth Night gathering in your community.

We also have a page that answers a lot of questions you might have about the movie -- check it out here: www.350.org/math

Onwards,

Anna for the whole 350.org team

P.S. April 21st is one day before the end of the State Department's public comment period on the Keystone XL pipeline -- so we'll make sure folks can collect and submit comments at local events.
