Request for Help for this list

All:

I have tried my best to keep spammers away from this list and so far we have
been fairly successful, however the volume of new requests to join is too
high for me to deliver an adequate QoS for newcomcers. I would like to ask
for some help.

I need 3-6 people who are on this list and willing to act as managers. When
a new request to join comes, you would get notified and log on to the
manager page to see the request. What I have done to date is as follows:

1. If the person has written a note with their request like "I am new to LC
ES...." I usually approve them right away.

2. If there is no information other than their email, I cut and paste their
email into the search groups box to see if they have made posts on other
groups. Several spammers have been caught by this and I deny them entry.
If their email does show up and it is posts related to tech I approve them.

3. If their email does not appear on any other group, I search the web for
the email and if there are any instances of the email associated with tech,
I approve them.

4. Finally, if they do not show up anywhere, I email them out a small
message saying "Hi - I am just checking to make sure you are human and would
still like to join the developer list. Please respond with your interest in
the topic and I will approve you"

For the last case, I do not mention LiveCycle because spammers likely ask to
join many lists and I want to make sure the person knows it is LiveCycle.
If they respond I approve them.

In the last case, if after 4 days they do not respond or their email
bounces, I delete the request.

I try to be fair and balance the rights of all users and think this is okay
but would like to get input and volunteers to help with these tasks.

Oh – and the last task a volunteer would have to do is immediately delete and ban a spammer should one slip through our defenses.  I travel a lot and a lot of spam can be done before I can get to it.
