Hi everyone, we are hoping to become a
Google Summer of Code organisation again this year.
Last year we were lucky enough to have three students work on projects:
Android control, Irrlicht game engine and ClusterGL.
Mentored by myself (UWS), Ben Goldstein and Adam Vollrath (both at EndPoint).
To start the ball rolling this year we're after a couple of things...
1. Project Ideas
See
http://code.google.com/p/liquid-galaxy/wiki/IdeasPage and
http://code.google.com/p/liquid-galaxy/wiki/GSoC2011
We need to make a succinct GSoC 2012 ideas page, picking half-a-dozen of the top priority projects.
2. People to be student mentors.
At least one per student. In my experience the commitment is a few hours week, and bursts of half-day when there's things to test/dev/etc.
There's no guarantee on the number of GSoC students we'll receive - last year, based on student submissions we asked for 6 and got 3. I can only guess that we may get the same number this year.
3. Approach students who you know who may have something to offer, and get them preparing a submission.
Deadline for organisation submissions (we need to do this bit) is two weeks, Friday 9 March.
Assuming we get the nod, submissions for students have a deadline of Friday 6 April.
Cheers, Andrew.
