Unable to su to particular id from root

Hi,

 

          I’m try to su from root id to mqm id, I got the below error. But I can su to other id from root.

 

Error Description

=============

 

          [root@mysss01 bin]# su - mqm

su: incorrect password

 

cat /etc/passwd | grep mqm

mqm:x:1005:1000:Application ID - mqm:/var/mqm:/bin/bash

 

[root@mysss01 bin]# tail -f /var/log/messages

Jul  1 05:28:38 mysss01 pam_tally[28589]: user mqm (1005) tally 17, deny 3

Jul  1 05:42:34 mysss01 pam_tally[30874]: user mqm (1005) tally 17, deny 3

Please check the "su" pam configuration details. or Remove the Pam_tally module from su pam config and try...

Hi Muthu,

 

          Thanks for your reply.

Since it is an production server I cant remove the Pam_tally from su pam config. And one thing is , I unable to su to this “mqm” id only from root.

 

Note: I can able to su to other users from root.

Try unlocking the user from root and try again. Hope it will work
 
faillog -u <user> –r
