If u want a good user interface, u can install Ubuntu. It is a reliable operating system. 
If u want bundled  application support , go for Centos or fedora.

In my destop i have installed ubuntu and i work on Cent Os in office. I think Centos is better.

go for ubuntu ! its the best desktop version of linux you can get.And the support is awesome ..Ofcourse you will still do some command line tricks but you will be in control of your system!!All the apps aer already there so no prb jus use synaptic and try them

Use CentOS 5x .It is known for stability & compatibility with REDHAT rpms.
