Will a LVD drive work with the NCR 53c876 controller?

I have a 53c876-based controller with 68-pin cables and I need to replace a drive. Is the 68-pin connector all I need to worry about and current-generation drives will work fine, or do I need to find an old non-LVD 68-pin drive? I really hope the new U160 and U320 drives are drop-in compatible. I am, of course, aware that they won't run at full speed...... more »

Hello all. I am unable to create partitions, whatever tool I use (fdisk, sfdisk, parted...). The application succeeds with no error messages, but the partition table is not written to disk. I have a SYMBIOS SCSI Host Adapter, Yamaha SCSI CDRW, and an Iomega SCSI ZIP Drive. Something keeps malfunctioning and I can't figure out what it is. I have a Tekram DC390F SCSI controller and a Teac cd532s scsi cdrom and a yamaha 4416s cd-rw attached to the controller. My problem is when i try to install linux (redhat, mandrake - doesnt matter) the setup finds my scsi card and my teac scsi cdrom but not my yamaha cdrw. does anyone have a similar problem or any advice on my problem?... more »

If the SCSI CD should be /dev/scd0 and the /dev/cdrom1 should be a link to /dev/scd0 for it to work. make sure that it is or change the line in the fstab to - /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom1 iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0 thenk it should work. Good luck, Brian Walton
