- Although small, bk-audit.patch was causing conflits with a couple of
other projects. Dropped for now.
- Greg is not using bk now, so bk-pci.patch, bk-i2c.patch,
bk-driver-core.patch and bk-usb.patch have been replaced with gregkh-*.patch
in -mm.
- Largeish x86_64 update
- CPU scheduler updates
- The bk-acpi patch here causes my ia64 test box to hang during boot

along the 2.6.12-rcX-mmX PCI-Express is not usable at all with
mm-patchsets. I posted some days ago the problem taht
the IRQs get not regonized by the kernel also with pci=routeirq nothing
helped.
The problem still the same and some new problems now with 2.6.12-rc2-mm2
in addition.
This computer has an Intel Pentium 4 630 with HT,EIST and EMT64 enabled.
In 2.6.12-rc2 everything works perfect.
So I post my dmesg output maybe you can see some interesting things
there. I hope you'll find the issue or bug..whatever hope that
its possible to sort the problems out.
Thanks in Advanced
Now I post the 2.6.12-rc2-mm2 and after that the 2.6.12-rc2 vanilla
kernel output

I got this running ./runltp -x 2, can't recall this happening before. It
bothers me a bit as it's a GFP_KERNEL allocation and there's lots of
swap available. I don't think I've learned to fully decipher these
oom-dumps fully yet (especially the active/inactive stat) but this looks
fishy to me.
Run with /proc/sys/vm/swappiness=1
After the killing /proc/meminfo reports lots of MemFree.

Oops, forgot to include slab.h. I guess the other #include's were
including it somewhere down the line on x86, so it went unnoticed :(
The attached patch should fix this.

Actually, I get these errors with ACPI=n, ACPI_BOOT=y, not the reverse as
you say.

This seem to be the ACPI=y, ACPI_BOOT=n errors we already saw in -mm1

One of my boxen takes about 5 minutes to reboot now, hitting sysrq-p a
few times shows it mostly sits in in acpi_ut_find_allocation+0x2b/0x37.
Reverting bk-acpi.patch makes it reboot like normal, config attached.

S2 basically does not exist. S3 is way more usable...
Here's patch, its against -mm; you'll probably need to adjust it a
bit. Maybe pci.c changes are no longer relevant.

Boycott Kodak -- for their patent abuse against Java.
Please drop these patches.
Using these symbols in non-GPL modules is a legal problem at least in
the USA except for IBM, and all we've heard from IBM is that they are
not 100% sure that there is really no binary-only module by IBM that
might use these symbols.
The risk of anyne using them only increases (no matter that it's marked
as deprecated) as long as it's available - and nobody has until now
claimed that he's actually using one pf them in a binary-only module.

Again, based on what line of reasoning? Again, the obvious lines
of reasoning do not apply.

From my earlier message (http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/4/4/244):
Agreed, in that I know of no binary module that uses RCU. However,
I cannot -prove- that there is no such module.
IOW, I am also not 100% sure that there is really no binary-only module
using these symbols by -anyone-, including someone -other- than IBM.
In addition, I know of no way that -anyone- could possibly be 100% sure
that there is really no binary-only module using symbols. Hence the
approach of providing the year "grace period" before transitioning to
EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL().

I am not convinced that the risk of usage increases significantly.
However, even if someone does start using them in a binary module, they
will have been warned. Yes, someone could possibly ignore the warning.
They -still- will have been warned, so that any "damage" would be
self-inflicted. Therefore, as noted earlier, the symbol transitions
to EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL() one year after its inclusion, regardless of any
people who ignored warnings.
Thanx, Paul
Shouldn't the IBM patents be enough reason to prevent everyone except
IBM from using RCU in non-GPL modules?

If kernel development was based on the assumption that every change that
might break binary-only modules would need a one year "grace period", it
was much different from how it's today...
Not necessarily, at least according to the lawyers that I talk to.

This is not "every change", but a specific change, and a rather unusual
one at that.
