Hi, there, I accidentally deleted /dev/sdc. Would someone please tell me how to create it back. Is it by using 'mknod'? What would be the MAJOR and MINOR be? I think the type is 8. Thanks in advance! Roger email: rs...@bigmailbox.net

Linux and bad SCSI HD: can I force mount a partition?
Hi, there, I have this SCSI HD which developed a problem. It seems that sector 0 of the HD turned bad. When my Redhat Linux 7.3 boot up, I got this message:

Will a LVD drive work with the NCR 53c876 controller?
I have a 53c876-based controller with 68-pin cables and I need to replace a drive. Is the 68-pin connector all I need to worry about and current-generation drives will work fine, or do I need to find an old non-LVD 68-pin drive? I really hope the new U160 and U320 drives are drop-in compatible. I am, of course, aware that they won't run at full speed...... more »

scanner repeated in device list
Hello, Stats: BusLogic adapter, ScanMaker E6 scanner, SuSE 8.1 fresh install. Other adapter: aha2940uw. The scanner is set to scsi id 6 and the BusLogic bios diagnostics shows it as such but when scanning for devices, here is what happens: ...device `microtek:/dev/sg15' is a Microtek ScanMaker E6 flatbed scanner... more »

Measuring disk temperature.
Has anyone got any code that is able to measure the temperature of a SCSI hard disk under Solaris or other form of unix? Many of the newer models have the necessary hardware to do this. Many support SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology), but I can't find any details on how to measure the... more »

Advansys module problem. HELP!
Sorry about the multiple postings but I'm getting desparate! The problem I have is with a SIIG AP-40 SCSIpro card and IBM DDRS-34560 hard disks and it occurs on Mandrake8.2 and RedHat7.3 but they are the only other two I have tried. No problem with RedHat6.2 so I can only assume it is a module problem.... more »

Help needed with Philips CDD3600 CD writer
I've got the above SCSI CD-RW and it seems to be cursed! Every time I use it with any other SCSI device it causes bus errors but is fine with nothing else on the chain. It doesn't seem to matter which SCSI card I use, Adaptec or AdvanSys, the result is the same. It cannot be termination as everything is fine with several hard disks until this piece... more »

Adaptec AHA1524CF problem
I have an Adaptec AHA1542CF host adapter. I am running Linux kernel 2.0.36 with the aha1542 driver as a module and loaded at boot time via an initial ramdisk. On a cold boot everything works just fine, however, on a warn boot the system locks up on loading the aha1542 driver. This is the last message printed before the system locks up:... more »

Advansys SCSI driver not working w/SMP RH 7.2?
I just installed an IWill DU3160 Ultra160 SCSI controller and RedHat 7.2. My motherboard is an older Tyan 166 Dual Pentium. The RedHat installation made the SMP version of the kernel default but the SCSI interface is not functional with this version of the kernel. (all SCSI commands timeout) Modified the boot loader to make the non-SMP version the default. The system... more »
