Owncloud at home and bandwidth
Hi, I installed Owncloud on a new install of wheezy on a "server" at home. I use apache2, php5 and mysql, and I redirect the port 443 on my server. It is work fine, but I need to limit the upload bandwidth to Internet. I have a 1mb/s upload adsl, if I share a file with other people, it could saturate my connection.... more »

kmail under wheezy
Hi All, Is anyone using KDE and Kmail under Wheezy? How does it work? Is it stable enough to use or should I wait to update from Squeeze? Thanks, Mike -- Mike McGinn KD2CNU Ex Uno Plurima No electrons were harmed in sending this message, some were inconvenienced. ** Registered Linux User 377849... more »

What are ddebs, mentioned in less changelog.Debian?
$ zgrep -A5 458-2 /usr/share/doc/less/changelog. Debian.gz less (458-2) unstable; urgency=low * Merge 458-1ubuntu1 - debian/lesspipe{.1}: Make lesspipe treat ddebs the same as it does debs and udebs (LP: #1180013). What are ddebs? I think it is not a typo as debs and udebs are explicitly listed.... more »

Posts not making it to debian-user?
If you can see this post on debian-user, can you reply to it and cc my email directly? I suppose only one person needs to do this... I have been looking at the debian-user archives and none of the posts I've made last night or today have been showing up... Thanks! amber

apt pinning for deb-multimedia does not work
Hi, I want to pin the libav* packages from deb-multimedia so they get a lower priority than the libav packages in the default Debian repos. My sources.list looks like this: $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*list ...contrib non-free deb [arch=amd64,i386] [link] wheezy main contrib... more »

systems hangs every few days
After upgrading to wheezy, I get a system hang every one or two days where the system becomes completely unresponsive and I need do a cold boot. This is an older machine with an Athlon processor. I'm not running X. I don't see anything unusual in the logs. The last entry in syslog is typically a cron job, but not always the same one. The system seems to freeze without any warning.... more »

Debian machine not booting
Hi, I have a debian machine which was on for a long time (~months). Just moved house and rebooted and now it doesn't boot. My 4 harddrives are organised in pairs of RAID 1 (Mirrored) with LVM spanning them. Originally there was just one pair, but then I got two new hard drives and added them. I then increased the space of VolGroup-LogVol03... more »

Problems with CD insertion - sid
When a CD is inserted, it does not get mounted (data CD) or properly notified (audio CD). I found that rhythmbox never showed an audio CD as available to play - it should come up under devices on the left-hand sidebar. I then tried setting the system to run VLC instead, using System Settings. Still nothing happens when a CD is inserted. (But VLC can... more »

is there a debian utility for this?
Hi folks, it may be a part of laytext, but we do not have that here on shellworld. Still I am wondering if there is a utility in debian that will convert the ms word .docx file format into anything else? antiword will not do this because technically .docx is not word so to speak. for those who do not know Microsoft created the .docx format in word 2007,... more »
