Hi,

I was just pointed to this bug, since I was thinking about the presentation of
screenshots in the PTS. Thinking that it would be annoying to have missing
screenshots displayed as yet another todo item (pointless+annoying to too many
packages) I thought it might be better to link different: display a link if a
screenshot for a package exist. If the link is missing, its clear screenshots
are missing too.

cheers,
Holger

We already link to the screenshots page for binary packages:

http://packages.qa.debian.org/w/warzone2100.html
http://packages.qa.debian.org/b/bzflag.html

I still think it would be useful to display a todo item when a package
"should" have a screenshot but doesn't. We just need to work out the
right heuristics for that.

It should be probably possible to define some reasonable debtags to
decide whether a screenshot makes sense or not. The role::* tag comes
definitely to mind, any package that sets uitoolkit::* and x11::* also
should have a screenshot. BTW, I'm also in favour od screenshots for
consol applications with a pure text interface. Having a screenshot
very quickly informs the user what he can expect. I'm missing some
general advise how to make such screenshots. I guess a somehow
standardised setting for the xterm that should be screenshot might make
sense (regarding colors, fonts). Because it might make some extra
burden for people who like to help with screenshots it would be cool to
have some script, say screenshot-term, that fires up such a terminal
with the proper options.

Kind regards

Andreas.

Hi,

A bit off topic, but I have just remembered: it would be nice to hide a the
screenshot area at pages on packages.debian.org for packages from contrib and
non-free areas, because screenshots.debian.net does not store screenshots for
them.

Note above should be also taken into account for packages.qa.debian.org,
when such heuristics will be written.

Best wishes,
Boris

yes, and a good one. That feature is burned after a period of too many false
positives...

Just a small note. Packages from non-free and contrib areas should be
filtered on the first step of check, because screenshots.debian.net does
not store data for them [1].
