I hit the same problem today while upgrading my testing system: My two
non-autohiding panels at the top and bottom of the screen are ignored when
opening or maximizing windows, so the window title bar ends up hidden below
the panel. The title bar is still partially hidden if I make the panels
auto-hide.

Re-installing metacity did not help. My gut feeling made me also upgrade
gnome-panel to 2.26.2-1 from sid. This did not change anything in the case
that the panels are not auto-hide.
However, if the panels *do* have autohide enabled, the title bar is not
partially hidden, everything works as advertised!

This Gnome bug seems to be the one we're looking for. What version of
gnome-panel did the fix go into?

Cheers,

Richard

That would be metacity 2.27.

I can confirm that this bug fixes the problem for me! As the issue was
beginning to get on my nerves, I simply applied the patch to the current
2.26 Debian package and recompiled. ;)
