Bug#624005: esniper: SSL certificate authentication fails

Please note that I am an SSL and libcurl novice.
The SSL certificate authentication fails with my esniper:
$ esniper sofa.txt

Note the strange URL. I had libcurl3-cares and libcurl4-cares-dev installed and compiled the upstream esniper-2-23-0 and esniper-2-24-0 which both failed in the same way.
The fix for me was to deinstall libcurl3-cares and libcurl4-cares-dev and install libcurl4-gnutls-dev, then recompile esniper-2-24-0. The newly compiled esniper-2-24-0/esniper binary then works.
So it seems to be a curl problem. I suggest recompiling Debian's esniper against libcurl4-gnutls-dev to make it work.
