Version: 2.14.3.6
I get this error message every second time I start sartx.
[ERROR MESSAGE STARTS]
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not
work correctly.
The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.
The last error message was:
System exception: IDL:Bonobo/GeneralError:1.0 : Child process did not
give an error message, unknown failure occurred
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.
[ERROR MESSAGE ENDS]
Things I have found out...
1. If I create a new user they get the same error message.
2. I can't find this error logged anywhere - it just pops up.
3. Running fsck (as I read on a forum) does not help.
4. Think it may be related to exiting gnome while an iceweasel was running.
5. There's nothing related to this in .xsession-errors.
About my installation...
I installed the base/standard system from an Etch 4.0 CD (I checked
the MD5 sums after downloading). The only other package installing
commands I have run are "apt-get install xorg, apt-get install
iceweasel, apt-get install gnome-core". I am running fairly old
hardware - 500MHz CPU/192Mb RAM. The pagckages I installed after the
base/standard system were downloaded from an ftp mirror.
Thanks for doing this. Debian is great.
i found a similar bug when i log out nd then i try to login.
some processes are still running (as my user), including bonobo.
so, it gives an error.
killing those processes *before* logging in again makes the error go
away.

Is this limited to GNOME 2.14, or does it also happen with 2.18?

i use etch, so gnome 2.14.
Fresh vanilla Etch install from netinst cd to get base system, then I
add xorg and gnome-core.
Only other difference from the "norm" is that I uncheck the "install
recommended packages automatically" switch in aptitude.
Is there any way to debug this?
TIA, Jaime
