Package: xtightvncviewer
Version: 1.2.9-13
Severity: minor

Just upgraded my testing/unstable box and now xtightvncviewer fails to
connect to running (since month ago and I believe of the version which
is installed now: 1.2.9-8)

After I pass password authentication it fails:
*> xtightvncviewer ravana:1
VNC server supports protocol version 3.3 (viewer 3.3)
Password:
VNC authentication succeeded
Desktop name "yoh's X desktop (ravana:1)"
Connected to VNC server, using protocol version 3.3
VNC server default format:
32 bits per pixel.
Least significant byte first in each pixel.
True colour: max red 255 green 255 blue 255, shift red 16 green 8 blue 0
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font
Error: Aborting: no font found

xtighvncviewer seems to hardcode the chosen font:
*> strings /usr/bin/xtightvncviewer | grep helvetica
*popup*font: -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

in the sources vncviewer/Vncviewer has that definition hardcoded.

for some reason after the upgrade something got wrong with fonts
probably so it didn't manage to "convert string" to type FontStruct
nomatter what font I fed to it. So I tried short name:

echo "*popup*font: fixed" | xrdb -merge

That helped...

I just thought worth mentioning since other people might struggle as
well after the upgrade. I am not sure how common this will be and how
this issue has to be addressed properly... but I believe such X
settings as "*popup*font" has to be mentioned in the man pages at least

Hi

Thanks a lot.

I'll try to correct this. The reason for this problem is a new Xorg
package, which no longer contain these fonts.
