Hey guys,

There is a Ubuntu Global Jam comming up the 2nd to the 4th of
September. At Ubuntu Ireland, we would like to hold one on the 3rd of
September in both Dublin and Limerick. Would miLK Labs be a possible
venue for the Limerick one? Last time we had one I asked in UL and
they hosted it, but as the college year is out, I'm unsure if I can
make contact with the students union. If it isn't possible, no
worries, just the sooner I find out the sooner I can try somewhere
else

Thanks for your time

Andru Quinn

Will we have broadband by then?

Gabriela was speaking with John Kennedy of WTS Broadband today at OpenCoffee Limerick and he hopes to get around to checking the friary for line-of-sight to one of his transmitters some day soon.

I'll ring John Kennedy on Monday to arrange a visit during next week.
This is what we decided at the OpenCoffee.

Andru,

I'm sure this is the kind of event we would like to support, it just depends on whether that facilities are good enough just yet (no broadband).

If you could indicate what would be required of the venue than we could think about improving the space to host this or similar future events.

All that would really be needed is power sockets, seating, a table and
internet. Nothing else would be needed, and to be honest internet
isn't that big a thing. It would just be for downloading source code
to work on certain bugs and a meeting via skype/Google+/ustream
(hasn't been confirmed but there may be a streamed introduction from
Dublin) and I have a USB broadband dongle that I wouldn't mind
everybody using for the day.

It's more of a public meet point where we can work in groups if
needed, discuss problems across table. That kind of thing.

Supose the only other thing would be the times. The last one went from
9a.m to 6p.m and we would like to stick to the same times if we could.

And thanks for considering and for your co-operation

Andru,

We had a talk about this last night and agreed that the space should be available for your purposes as long as some members are present for some/all the time of the event.

I can be there to open up in the morning and will be able to stay most of the day (hopefully I can get involved and help out) but as a new father I may not be able to commit the full day.

Have you seen the new space? Just let us know if you would like to be shown.

I have not seen the new space but I was at the old one once or twice and know where the new one is. If by members you mean of Ubuntu Ireland I can assure you I will be there all day, even if it's on my own, to learn about bug fixing and wait for others to drop in/out.

If you mean members of milklabs, maybe we should try and work out a rota in case the full day can't be covered, that way at least if the day can't be covered I won't be telling people it's till 6 and can only be covered till 3.

Thanks for your consideration on the idea and allowing for use of the space, you've all been very helpful in this!

Andru,

Are you still on for this Saturday, in Milklabs?

I'll be able to be there for the morning and most of the day, may need
someone else to come in later on in the day to lock up.

If I was to get involved in the Jam, what will I need?

Trevor

Hey Trevor, I sure am, I was going to ask if anyone could cover but didn't want to annoy the entire mailing list.

To get involved, all you would need is a laptop that can either boot from CD or USB or already running Ubuntu. After that, you will just need to download the source code where the bug/document is kept or you can test a fresh install or upgrade. Basically nothing fancy.

I'm not the best solver of bugs but I do enjoy the learning process so nobody should feel it to be a competition. Just some problem solving.

Cool, I have the latest Ubuntu running on a VM, would this be OK?

Where do I download the source code with bugs/documents?

Do you have any links promoting the event? Should we post an article on the mILKlabs blog?

Hello all,
The Global Jam is not just about software bugs. It about making Ubuntu
better as a whole.
There are lots of things the non coder can do and help with.

Fix the wiki,
Check the documentation.
Work on Ubuntu-ie website.
Answer a question on https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu,
Confirm a bug.

I will do up a blog post on http://ubuntu-ie.org/ tonight if I get time.

Jeffery I right and I forgot to mention. It also covers translations into Irish to make it available in Irish.

For any bugs that are to be worked, the bugs can be found listed on Launchpad and then the source code for the relevant package is depending on the package.

I'm not 100% about VM but it should be fine. Like, it still has all the functionality of a regular install so it should be.

A miLK labs blog post would be great and I can do one on Ubuntu-ie.org now.

Thanks!

I forgot translations, they are important.
We are on track to have 3 bug jam locations this year, a first

So milklabers,
Can we work out a schedule so that one of us will be there for these
good folk on saturday. I won't be in town this weekend, so it rules me
out...

As I said, I can be there to open up in the morning. I would like to be there for the whole day but I may have to go in the afternoon.

It would be great if some one could come in later in the afternoon and stay 'till they are finished (around 6 I think) to lock up.

We still need a volunteer to hang around milklabs on sat afternoon
incase Trevor has to bail...
I'll buy that person a mars bar to help sweeten the deal.

I've gotten little response from people who want to attend the global jam. In fact so far I'm the only one going. If I can't get anymore to agree to attend there would be no reason to drag it out all day. I could just head home and do it from there.

I'll put it out again on the social sites and see what people say but it seems doubtful it would be worth having to drag people in from their free time for the day
