Wow, how could have I missed this great piece of software for so long?
Recently Limechat 1.0 was updated to MacUpdate.com so it got my
attention and I decided to give it a small test drive. Well color me
impressed! Since switching from Windows and mIRC two years ago I've
been looking for a mIRC replacement for OSX. I've been through
Macirssi, Colloquy, Linkinus... You name it. Macirssi has been my
weapon of choice lately but it still does not feel nowhere as good as
mIRC. But then LimeChat came into picture. Did I already say wow?
Well, I'll say it again. Wow! LimeChat felt instantly very "mIRC
like"; simple but effective and it has almost all the features I could
ask for. But after all this praise I have a few feature requests - if
you don't mind. :)

1) Growl notification windows won't disappear automatically even if I
set them them ALWAYS in Growl preferences. So this one needs some
tweaking on LimeChat's side.

2) Double-click should open query to selected user. (I noticed someone
had already made a custom tweak for this but I'm not into compiling
software myself. So please make this at least optional.)

3) Instead of daily logs I want one big evergrowing log per user/
channel - like mIRC does. Is this doable?

4) If I use UTF-8 or ISO-8859-15 the Scandinavian characters (ÅåÄäÖö
-- A with "ring on top", and A and O with dots in case you don't see
the characters properly) in log files will get corrupted when opened
with Quicklook for example. I think this is because OSX is using Mac
OS Roman as its default character set. So is possible that logs would
be written using the default OSX character encoding even though
characters in LimeChat screen would be UTF-8 or ISO-8859-15?

5) Highlighting should highlight the whole comment, not just the
selected word. It looks quite funny when for example your nick is
suddenly on much bigger font size in middle of the sentence. For
reference see how mIRC handles highlighting. :)

6) Double-clicking in channel window or channel name in that small
channel window should open channel property window (like mIRC does).
And the channel property window should include topic too. (Yeah, I
know topic can be changed via Cmd-t but ... :)

7) Instead of Cmd-1 moving to first channel/query window could it move
focus to console window? I'm so accostumed to mIRC's status window
being behind Alt-1 shortcut. :P I know it's a funny request but the
nerves and muscles in my hand are so used to certain patterns; now
Cmd-2 opens the second channel in the list instead of first channel
like it does in mIRC. Of course a temporary workaround would be
creating a dummy channel window... But asking for these features
doesn't cost a dime so what the heck.

So there you have it. Please let me know what do you think of these
feature requests.

PS. I really hope you keep up the magnificient work!

2) You don't have to compile limechat, just go into the app's contents, find the right file, and edit it.... granted any upgrade will overwrite that change though, so you might want to use a versioning system like git.

5) this depends on the skin, the one I have highlights the whole line and doesn't change font sizes.

Well, I'm not too comfortable doing that either. It's a rather small
annoyance so I think I'll wait for a built-in option - if that ever
happens. :)

Oh, thanks for the tip. I'll have to play around with other themes
later today. (I just chose the one that was easy on the eyes in middle
of the night.)
