Dear everyone,
I have been asked to notify everyone about the CELEBRATION OF LIFE OF SAKKER SACRANIE which will be held tomorrow afternoon.
Please make a note of this and send it on to anyone who I might have missed. Your attendance would be appreciated if you knew Sakker.
As I have no way of knowing whether you knew Sakker, I am sending this to everyone – please disregard this message if you did not know her.
The Celebration of the Life of Mrs Sakker Sacranie,
on Friday 18th January, at 15.00 hrs.
at the Central High School in Limbe.
All - who knew her - are very welcome.
Mrs Sacranie died on 14 December 2012 at the age of 88 years and was buried next to her husband, Sattar Sacranie, at their home in Namaso Bay, in Mangochi.
She was known for her efforts in the country's fight for independence and later, her development endeavours for women,
through the Chitukuko cha Amayi m'Malawi (CCAM).
She founded the Private Educational institutions Mount View Primary and Central High Schools in Limbe.
She was the founding chair of Banja la Mtsogolo (BLM) and served as board chairperson of BLM for 23 years before retiring in 2010.
She served as chairperson of the fundraising and publicity committee of Malawi Against Polio (MAP),
was board-member of the Censorship Board (1966-68),
the Blantyre Local Education Board (1971-1974),
the Malawi Council of the Handicapped (1982-1994),
board-member and trustee of the SOS Village (1994-1998, trustee of the Press Trust (1995-1998)
and member of the board of governors of the Kamuzu Academy (1995-2002).
