Hi Everyone

I just upgraded to 10.04,. Now I can't burn DVDs with any app: brasero K3b Nautilus Gnomebaker. I have joined Canonical support and so far they can't figure it out. The problem has been noted in forums but I found no solutions. eg

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=7407677078ec1111dc29a846477e6bf7&t=1224956

The problem must have been solved by now

Attached are some error output logs

Try renaming the ISO to "brasero.iso", just temporarily, to see if that
makes any difference. Can you create a data or music project and
successfully burn that, or does Brasero (or the other programs) fail to
burn no matter what it is trying to record?

What version of Ubuntu were you using before you upgraded? The
following might also be useful:

If you have two CD drives:

Boot from the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop CD and try to burn a file in the
live environment.

If you have a spare harddrive:

Install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and burn a test ISO.
If this doesn't work, install Ubuntu 11.04 and burn a test ISO.

Thanks to everyone.

Nathan:
Same bad result with live 10.04. What do you mean by renaming ISO to Brasero.iso?

This was in the forums in 2009;must have been solved!

Even seems to happen with Nero Linux!

I saw somewhere the term"kernel issue";sounds bad.

Thanks. Never tried Fedora but I must stay with Ubuntu for now. I have nontech projects which take precedence. By the way, Brasero fails under Mandriva 2009 too.

It looked as thought the filename of the ISO you were trying to burn was
very complex and I was curious whether some of the special characters in
the filename were causing the problem. By renaming the file, that would
eliminate that as a possibility.

What version of Ubuntu were you using before you upgraded? Does it work
with an Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop CD?

Nathan

I was using 8.04 LTS.
I don't have 11.04 CD yet. How would I rename the file of the ISO;where is it? By the way, I am also getting help from Canonical---so far no solutions but they are looking at the error outputs.

I should have known---and aborted the upgrade---when the 1st thing it (the upgrader) said it would do was to remove brasero--one of my best apps. It removed brasero but not the associated files, which I found strange. I reinstalled brasero but I think that is a clue to the problem.

Maybe I should just try another K3b install
