Hi David

or other great Scala / Lift programming, do you have any plans to make
training videos, I love leaning by videos and would be happy to pay
for these.

But not video about why Scala/Lift is good BUT how to code by example!

Thanks
Paul

You've asked for this before.

What does a video get you that books and examples don't?

There are a few videos of talks by @dpp floating around.

I think there are some videos bumping around of various presentations that people have done, though they're not strictly speaking tutorial screencasts.

Personally I would totally vote for any Lift related videos that we
know of to be surfaced as links (at least) from the Lift site. I
"videos" section would just be just awesome. Books, articles, wiki are
just different beasts that helps you with details. Videos are fun
stuff where one can learn essentials about Lift.

I've been thinking about doing a screencast for some time actually. I would like to work on a
few episodes with someone if anyone is up for it

We could have a short skype call and work out a few subjects if anyone interested :)

Thanks,

Hi Tyler

Yes I have asked before and I've searched a lot on Google and can only
find videos about "Why lift is good"

I have Lift books and I used them, but for me videos are better for
the following reasons:

1) Put the video on a second screen and type on the first screen.

2) I just learn more from videos, stays in my mind - don't know why!

3) You looking down at the desk to read the book, just easy to look
across at other screen.

3) Can put video on my iPhone/iPod and iPad and listen to it, so I get
brainwashed.

Thanks

Plus I paid for a Scala Video sometime ago that was "type together
video" and learned more from that video then my Scala book!

Please some make a good Lift video.

Thanks
Paul

Mads,

I am very tempted, but working to finish my PhD first. Put me down for "in a month or two", if you can wait that long.

Mads (and anyone else),

Can I suggest if you want to do video casts you stuff them on the lift screen cast site:
http://liftweb.blip.tv/

Come to think of it, I have a bunch of videos that would be good to go up on there.

Cheers, Tim

I'm planning to watch for offerings from http://escalatesoft.com/ They
may record some of their training and put it on-line especially if
people request it.

@Matthew
Sure thing, good luck with the PhD :)

@Tim
I had no idea Lift had a blip channel - but it sure seems like a reasonable place to put a screencast ;)

We set it up a long, long time ago - at the risk of sounding old, before your time me ol' chap! hahaha.

But yeah, that would be a great place as it can be aggregated from a central location. Would love to see what you could do in the way of video tutorials tho.

Cheers

Mads,

If you could do screencasts, that'd be extra super tremendous.  How about starting with a couple based on the Lift Getting Started guide?

Thanks,

David

...or that polls tutorial that was done by the other fellow; that was also good quality stuff which would likely translate well to video.

I pulled out the videos to a separate section on the Wiki (and also
added the Blip.TV link):

I'm working on finishing that up, but first I have to find my way
around Snippets and SiteMap. Hopefully parts 3 and 4 will appear soon.

Matt, I would love to see any videos you put together. :) I was sorry
to have missed out on peeking into your Scala course.

What do you think about teaming up with Rob Connery of TekPub? They
are doing some great series on Rails and .Net and i get the impression
that they attract quite a few smart people from both sides. Letting
these guys do the tech work will probably speed up the process also.

Hi,

I recently came along this site where one individual placed quite a
lot of training video's, and I think he makes a living of it.
It is really a nice site, has a simple but nice 'format' for the
video's. And placing them on Youtube, the man receives some money for
every 1000 visitors, and in his case it must be a lot.

Maybe something for Lift?
