Hello,

I know that some people have embedded the LibraryH3lp chat widget in Summon and I'm wondering if anyone has placed it in any other web scale discovery tool? Or, in particular, in Ebsco's Discovery Service (EDS)? Or knows if it is possible?

I would be interested to hear impressions from anyone who has placed the LH widget in Summon, EDS, or any other web scale tool. Much appreciated!

Best wishes,
Alexa

Hi, Alexa,
we at IU Bloomington added a widget to our EDS implementation - as well as to all of our Ebsco databases. you can see it here: http://screencast.com/t/5PjvtugbEstL

in looking at our stats i wouldn't say we've been exactly *deluged* with chats from that source, but certainly for the folks that do opt to use it, it seems like a real help. and we feel really good about having it there, so that's something. :)

happy to help in any way, drop me a line offlist if you'd like to know more.
cheers,
cg

Hi Peter,

It *looks* like it should be possible to get a LibraryH3lp widget to show up there.  In reviewing EBSCO's publicly-viewable documentation I found these:

http://support.epnet.com/knowledge_base/detail.php?id=4713

http://support.epnet.com/eds/widgets.php

It sounds like you can place custom widgets on what they call the Detailed Record view.  That seems like it ought to do the trick.

Unfortunately, we don't have an EBSCO admin account to experiment with in order to verify and provide the exact steps.  But give it a try and shout back if no joy?

Very best,
Pam

Hi,

Just joining as I was wondering if  libraryh3lp widgets  can be added to the page beyond the results list in EDS (the pages that show abstracts and with OpenURL links if it's a non-EBSCO title)?

My experience with Summon at my previous library was that the point at which a student would think 'I need a librarian' was where things broke down - and this was usually at the point they were wanting to click for full-text.

Thanks for the post and reply - very useful as we're looking to get chat / discovery working well together at Bath Spa library, UK

Cheers,

Peter,

Thanks ever so much Pam,

Once we're in a position to test this, I'll report back.
