Last year there was a great push for National Gaming Day...I was
wondering if anyone out there knew when it is to be held this year and
if there is any more information about it out there?

National Gaming Day is November 14th! We'll be organizing a national
smash bros. bracket again and a rock band any version high score
contest. We're also planning an all-ages Mario Kart online tourney on
11/15 as a followup. I believe info from ALA is coming shortly. In
the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any questions about
the videogame side of national gaming day. Thanks for your interest!

Eli: Could you send me some more info on how the smash bros.
tournament is gonna be run? That's our big draw here. We're running
one right now w/ 32 players and 35 spectators and I'm sure that would
be something our gamers would be very interested in.

Hi Adam, National Gaming Day Smash Bros. Finals will begin at 3 PM EST on Saturday 11/14 and each participating library should field a 4-player squad. Most participating libraries will use a tournament to select their local champions but it's up to you how you choose your team. Your Wii needs to be online and tested in advance to minimize surprises. We'll organize a bracket with 4 libraries per pool, and each round will be 1 player from each library in a 3-stock, 5 minute, low items match. 1st place library gets 100 points, 2nd place 80, 3rd place 60, and 4th place 50. The library that scores the most across the 4 matches in their pool will advance to the next round; the others can continue to play each other for consolation. We'll have more info as we get closer, but shoot me an email at gtsy...@aadl.org and we'll hold a place for your library in the bracket and arrange a time to test the connection. Thanks for your interest and let me know if you have any other questions!

Does anyone have more info on how the Rock Band tournament should be
run? I can't find any details at http://ilovelibraries.org/gaming/

Also, will there be a free game from Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast like
last year?

Hi Danielle, the Rock Band Tournament is sort of like a national high-score contest. You'll need to have a gtsystem account to enter your scores, so let us know at gtsy...@aadl.org if you don't have one already. Then you just register each band of 3 or 4 players in your tournament when they show up and record the scores and songs of each round. Any version, any song, any difficulty is allowed. We'll see who posts the highest score! Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about joining the tournament.
