I'm also curious if anyone out there has used it in a library setting.
Anyone familiar with the MinecraftEdu package? I'd love to have a
multiplayer version, hosted at the library where I could have teens come to
Minecraft drop-ins and they would use our laptop computers in our community
room (we don't have a computer lab) to learn and play.

Any info. would be appreciated!

Dawn

Hi there, we have purchased 100 seats of Minecraft Edu and will be installing it on our public server farm; we're also setting up an AADL Minecraft server focused on creative collaboration. We're loading it with several copies of ann arbor's topology and the street grids as of 1850, 1900, 1950, and 2000 with warp points, and we're having our first event this weekend. Our gist is that we'll ask our players to use our local history photo collection as reference to help us build out Ann Arbor as of those 4 eras and generally collaborate on building cool stuff in-world.  We'll see how it goes!

Let me know!  Sounds wild, beyond my capabilities maybe, but I have to hear about it!

Have you tried Minecraft, Kelly?  I just read that article, but it did not seem feasible for me to really work with it in the public library setting.

I want to write a grant to get laptops for my Teen Advisors to use.  Any ideas?  If not, I can look on Foundation Center.  We so need laptops.   The teens need Google for everything.  And, our other computers are obligated all the time.  I'm going to look.
It sounds so complex to run this type of game.  I've got 25 teens who attend our gaming events, but obviously, we could not have 25 dedicated computers.
Are you in a public library?  If so, where, Dawn?
