I sent my reply directly to Sarah but thought I would send it to the group as well. See below.

The only inserts we do "police" are CD inserts as these often contain lyrics. We also police mixed media items which include a CD and/or DVD and book.

Hello Sarah,

We circ video games and include the booklet initially with our library labels included.

However, we do not fine people who don't return the booklet. Most people who check out the games know where to find the cheats, and instructions, online. Personally, my own kids never once looked at a booklet included with a game, ever.

This saves time and effort on staff's part as we don't have to police the booklets. If a patron checks out a game and it has a booklet, it's their lucky day.

AS you can well imagine, the vast majority of our games no longer have the booklets included and we've heard nary a peep. Not one.

Hey gang,

We're running into some small troubles with circing video games. If
you circ video games, could you answer these questions for me?

What do you do when a patron looses a booklet?

Do you charge the entire cost of the item and give them the game?
Do you replace the booklet (and from where)?

Do you have special labels on the booklets and/or games establishing
the contents?

Thanks!

To put this in perspective, Gamefly, the biggest mail-order rental company of games in the country, doesn't even send out the instruction booklet.

While the booklet is nice to have, everything's online now or even featured in an in-game tutorial. It's not necessary, but we do charge something if it's not returned (I think it's $2).
