Next meeting January 17th, 2013

AGENDA:

Autodesk Inventor user group meeting notice:

Topics:  Vault

Capturing work flows with simple tools

Work flow and worked examples are key to learning Inventor and its related products.   The user group is a great place to watch a process learn from others.  Even better for all is if you have a workflow that is better than what is being show, show off and do it differently or even better!

Since I have issues with using Vault I ask that we cover some of the standard work flows for this tool.  Vault is a free tool that ALL can and should use.  It does not matter what version of Inventor you are using.  R11 or 2013, this is stuff you can use.  If you are not using it, come and see it in action.  Single and multi seat users should attend.  Even if you are a user in a multi seat company that does not use Vault.  You should have your own at your desk if the gods of your company allow it.

Vaulting files, how it works and what happens to your stuff.

What types of files should you vault

Backing up, yes we should all do it, but we don’t, let vault help!

Renaming parts, assemblies, drawings and more.  So easy, so fast, so important

Restoring old versions from the vault, falling back to a better version, or falling back to an earlier version and then going off in a new direction

Common work issues using Vault

Where is my vault vs my workspace

Files in your workspace are newer than the Vaulted version, what do I do?

You cannot check the file in due to vault restrictions, nuts.

You changed a file in your workspace that has not been checked out, what do you do?

The file you want to work on has been checked out by someone else, you want to work on it.  What now????

While we are discussing this, we will also show and use tools that help capture the work flow.  Ever use SnagIt ?  Cool stuff.  Along these lines Autodesk Labs now has Project Grapevine”

“Project Grapevine is a free* technology preview of a new approach to forums, built on the idea that you can tap into your community to solve design and engineering problems using visual tools. Project Grapevine builds your network to become a valuable resource for learning and connecting with engineering professionals within your enterprise or outside.”
